It was a BAD weekend for South Africa’s ‘Big 3’ soccer teams Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
In fact, things haven’t been this bad in 13 years!
All three sides suffered defeats over the past 48 hours, the first time that has happened since 2009!
Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Angola’s Petro de Luanda in their CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg match, while Orlando Pirates lost 1-0 to Simba SC in their Last 8 CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie in Tanzania.
Finally, Kaizer Chiefs lost 1-0 to SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership match which piled more pressure on under fire Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter.
The last time all three teams lost on the same weekend was on 21-22 March 2009 in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 when Kaizer Chiefs lost to the University of Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns were upset by Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates went down to Bloemfontein Celtic.
Kaizer Chiefs fans used to being beaten
While Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans have become accustomed to defeats in recent seasons, it will have been a shock to the system for Mamelodi Sundowns supporters!
